BRAZIL IN THE GLOBAL INDUSTRY
Brazil is a vast country with over 11,000 film and audiovisual production companies registered in Agência Nacional do Cinema (Ancine). These companies are eligible to secure financial support for international co-productions through national and regional funds. Historically, Brazil has been co-producing feature films with European countries since the 1960s, but it wasn’t until the 2000s that there was a greater push for these partnerships, driven by new film policies, reaching new and potential co-producers across all continents. The Cinema do Brasil program, established in 2006, has been one of the major initiatives promoting Brazilian cinema globally, connecting Brazilian and international producers at the world’s largest film festivals and markets.
